Okay, so it's not ALL of December, but for the first half of the month Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright will be hosting a series of screenings at LA's New Beverly Cinema with a series of special guests. He's still got a couple guests to nail down but here's what's up so far:
December 2nd Paul Williams will join Wright to introduce Bugsy Malone, for which he composed the music, and Phantom of the Paradise, which he stars in.
December 5th pairs Wright with a pair of guests: Timothy Dalton is on hand for Flash Gordon followed by Joe Dante introducing Danger Diabolik!
December 7th Shane Black is on hand with The Last Boy Scout and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
December 10th - and this is a good one - features John Landis with An American Werewolf in London and Tremors!
December 12th you get Top Secret and Bananas with David Zucker!
And, finally, December 14th it's HEAD with Mickey Dolenz!
The big missing night in there is December 16th, which features Raising Arizona and Evil Dead 2. No guests confirmed yet but considering that the Coen Brothers and Sam Raimi (to say nothing of Arizona cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld) are old friends and collaborators and that Wright worships at the altar of Raimi it's not hard to figure out what he's aiming for here ... time will tell who he's able to get but there are so many fun options it's pretty much certain there'll be someone good.
Is it worth pointing out here that every time I ask Wright what, exactly, he's been doing hanging out in LA for so long he goes instantly and completely silent? Could be. Definitely worth pointing out that if he doesn't do something like this in Toronto soon - which he's already scouted for Scott Pilgrim and which is already written so the writer's strike is no issue, nudge, nudge - I'm going to cry bitter tears of disappointment.
