AFM: NEGATIVE HAPPY, CHAINSAW EDGE Gets Posterized

by Todd Brown, November 9, 2007 12:28 AM

While doing our initial scan of AFM titles, Japanese cult picture Negative Happy, Chainsaw Edge took the prize for best title - a prize it easily maintained throughout the course of the market. Now I'm told that despite the large, chainsaw wielding man this is primarily a relationship drama which makes it far stranger, and even better, in my book and we're pleased to show off the lovely English language poster for the picture from the market floor. Nummy.

I hate to knock a film with such a great title, but this is not the movie any of us would hope it to be.

First, it's geared towards a young, maybe even pre-teen audience. It plays like a TV movie based on a R. L. Stine book. Then, the action scenes are extremely tame (what a waste of a chainsaw...) and not very well constructed. Which brings me to the last point, it's just not very well made. It's not awful, like so much of AFM product, but it's not very good either. The story feels very slapped together and, worst of all, it's boring.
