AFFD - Got your Zebra Suit Ready? Zebraman Screening!

by Blake, November 3, 2007 11:10 AM

If you read me, Peter or Josh's AFFD 2007 coverage then you already know what a great festival The Asian Film Festival of Dallas is. Now this is really exciting news, ror late 2007 and all of 2008 and beyond the festival has even bigger plans - it wants to bring to the Dallas and North Texas area regular screenings on the big screen of the latest in Asian cinema. I think this step is incredibly exciting as many US fans of Asian cinema only experience movies on the small screen. If like me you want to see the latest in Asian cinema on the big screen then I highly recommend you support this cause and sign up for one of their membership packages. If you don't care where you sit then I recommend the Leading Roles package. If you do care where you sit then take the Associate Producer package. If you really really love Asian cinema then take the higher packages. Their first screening to kick off this new campaign is Miike's Zebraman. If you need a refresher on this film read Todd's review (here).

What happen to the media blasters R1 DVD? I've been waiting for ages to get this movie.

The only bootleg I own (knowingly) is this film and I can't wait to see it on the big screen. I'm going to buy my membership any day now!

Saw it years ago at Rotterdam Film Festival, unbeknown to me it was the world premiere! Had a blast, and I own the (legal) R2 DVD.

Funnily enough it has a feature on it about that premiere, and friends of mine can be spotted in it!

Your Bay Area readers might want to know that Zebraman is being screened twice at this year's Asian Film Festival; on Sunday 11/11 at 9:40PM and Tuesday 11/13 at 7:25PM, both at the 4Star in San Francisco.

Thanks for the tip Michael!

As for the DVD release I think it's always sad when any company buys and film and seems to Hannibal Lector it into an underground well, never to see the light of day. Paging Clarice, paging Clarice.

I'm really upset with Media Blasters about this one since they've been sitting on it for well over a year. It is an amazingly funny and heart warming film that deserves exposure. The day a legit R1 is available, I'll be the first in line.

I guarantee you that Media Blasters aren't sitting on it because they hate you or because they don't care about it anymore. This was a very expensive license for them and if they're not releasing it there have to be either legal or technical issues.
