We've been tracking this one for a while and Mai Tominaga's Wool 100% - winner of the Prix Sequences Award at this year’s Fantasia Festival - is now available to order on North American DVD. Here's the synopsis for this cinematic oddity:
The four parallel stories told in 100% PURE WOOL take place in a magical house where two old women live a fantasy world filled with monsters and garbage…Once upon a time, there were sisters named Ume and Kame. Sisters were living in an old house for a long time only by themselves. Every day, they came back picking up rubbishes every time they went out to the town. They valued and took good care of what they picked up very much. When the night came, sisters were able to sleep well in peace because a lot of rubbishes that had been picked up surrounded them. However, sisters have picked it up one day. It was a red woolen yarn.
The night of the yarns discovery while in bed the sisters heard some peculiar sounds from the rubbish heap collapsing. To the surprise, they found a little girl knitting a sweater out of the red wool which they had picked up. Ume and Kame named her as Aminaoshi” who kept on tracing the red wool ... Since then, sisters spent wakeful nights as all of the rubbish in their home transforms into monsters…
Why does Aminaoshi keep knitting the red wool like crazy? Who is Aminaoshi anyway...???

About time too! Roll on December.
