Oh, wow. I've been waiting to see some footage from French animated omnibus project Fear[s] of the Dark since first spotting it on the website of sales agent Celluloid Dreams a year or so ago and I just finally managed to turn one up. It was well worth the wait. The project is an anthology that gathers an assortment of acclaimed comic artists who each produce a short film - some more than one - about being afraid of the dark. The drawing and animation styles vary dramatically from artist to artist but the whole project is tied together not only by theme but by each director working purely in monochrome. Very, very nice.
Fear(s) of the Dark is a film featuring the coolest, underground, cutting edge, cult, visual and comic book artists of our time. Brought together for the first time on celluloid they delve beneath the skin to rattle the exact nerve that sends shivers down your spine. A kinky, creepy, disgusting and disturbing ride into what keeps us all awake at night... Don't see it alone! Spiders' legs brushing against naked skin… Unexplainable noises heard at night in a dark bedroom… A big empty house where you feel a presence… A hypodermic needle getting closer and closer… A dead thing trapped in a bottle of formaldehyde… A huge growling dog, baring its teeth and staring… So many scary moments we have experienced at some point in our lives - like the craftsmen of this journey straight to the land of fear.Six of the worlds hottest graphic artists and cartoonists have breathed life into their nightmares, bleeding away colour only to retain the starkness of light and the pitch black of shadows.Their intertwined stories make up an unprecedented epic where phobias, disgust and nightmares come to life and reveal Fear at its most naked and intense…

Christ that looks excellent!
