Notorious Filipino Pink Film SILIP: DAUGHTERS OF EVE Coming To DVD

by Todd Brown, September 28, 2007 8:13 AM

The good lads at Mondo Macabro have been hard at work dredging up the cultiest of cult films from around the globe for some time now. You want Bollywood horror? They got it. You want Bruce-sploitation? They got that, too. And more recently they've been dipping into the world of 70s and 80s Filipino co-productions, a veritable treasure trove of little seen b-films, that is. And among the big guns of that world is the seldom seen Silip, Daughters of Eve, a film described as the Filipino equivalent of Japanese pinku. Here's what they say about it:

In the tradition of Japanese “Pink” cinema comes this shocking, violent and sex-filled movie that caused an outrage when it was screened at the Chicago Film Festival. Starring the former Miss Philippines, the stunning Maria Isabel Lopez (in her most revealing role ever), SILIP – DAUGHTERS OF EVE is an eye-opening example of raw and savage filmmaking from one of the Philippines’ most innovative directors, Elwood Perez. Set in the beautiful and remote countryside of Ilongo, the story tells of three young women and their struggle to come to terms with their own sexuality against a background of religious oppression and male brutality. Mondo Macabro is pleased to present a 2-disc edition of one of the most extraordinary movies ever released on DVD. SILIP – DAUGHTERS OF EVE has been a well-kept secret amongst collectors of arcane and extreme films, talked about in awed tones but rarely seen… until now! Presented completely uncut and uncensored, SILIP – DAUGHTERS OF EVE is the ultimate cult movie and guaranteed not to disappoint.

Silip arrives November 20th.

Thanks for this bit of news Todd. My knowledge of Pinoy Cinema is really lacking outside of the Jack Hill exploitation films (Big Doll House etc.) and perhaps a few others so this is definitely of interest to me. One of the other films I've always been interested in seeing is "Darna" the Filipino "Wonder Woman". I've read that there have been many incarnations of the super heroine and that she has been the subject of many movies/remakes (similar to Santo films). Hopefully the response to "Silip, Daughters of Eve" will be positive and more films from the Philippines will be released to R1 DVD.

Absolutely Mindblowing. Thi's ain't no exploitation flick! This is world-class art-cinema. It's like discovering The Wickerman (original), Who Can Kill A Child? and In the Realm of the Senses all at the same time! This is in the running for best DVD release of the year! oi!
