Trailer Overload! Upcoming Malaysian Films

by The Visitor, August 27, 2007 1:22 AM

Being confined in the house for the last few days because of a serious bout of food poisoning is no fun. Having a bunch of DVDs to watch while recovering is comforting. Surfing the Net and discovering a bunch of trailers is simply awesome. Now, where did I put my antibiotics?

This here is an eclectic bunch of films, everything from horror and action to romantic comedies and animation. There's 1957 Hati Malaya (1957 Heart Of Malaya) which was made in conjunction with, and to celebrate, Malaysia's 50th year of independence this year. There's Geng: Misteri Hantu Durian (Gang: The Mystery Of The Durian Ghost), the country's first 3D animated feature. Then, there's Malaysia's answer to Initial D, called Impak Maksima (Maximum Impact), currently showing in cinemas, and what looks suspiciously like Malaysia's answer to Korean hit My Sassy Girl, called 9 September.

But the most promising here is perhaps Osman Ali's Anak Halal (Legitimate Child). Osman burst onto the scene some years ago with Bukak Api, a film that was originally meant as an educational film for sex workers but earned him such recognition that he quickly rose to be the most notable newcomer in the film industry. His last work was the psychological horror film, Puaka Tebing Biru.

Check out the trailers. The ones on the Sinema Malaysia website include information in English on each film. Subtitles are included where noted. Otherwise, erm, just try to guess what's going on. Heh.

Special thanks to Filem Kita.
