Pusan International Film Festival announces its opener and closer

by Andrew Mack, August 30, 2007 9:55 AM

Feng Xiaogang's [World Without Thieves and The Banquet] Chinese war movie Assembly has been announced as the opening film for the Pusan International Film Festival. This will be the world premiere for the film which centers around a captain during the Chinese civil war who struggles to restore honor to the 46 men in his company who sacrificed their lives.

Festival organizers also announced that the Japanese anime Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, by animators Hideaki Anno, Kazuya Tsurumaki and Masayuki, will be the festival's closing film. This first in a trilogy provides a new ending and interpretation to the story. This will be the feature's international premiere as the film will have already opened in Japan on September 1 and the festival runs in October between the 4th and the 12th.

Would anyone like to fly me to Korea in October?

I'd rather put up with the German psychogirl than with that blue haired zombie chick. I never got why everybody is so creepily obsessed with her. But yeah, we're talking about which 14 year old animated female is preferable... As for the EVA flicks, all I want is more Jodorowskian symbolism and womb imagery. But since it was said that this incarnation will be "more accessible" I rather doubt I'll get my wish.
