Lucio Fulci's 'Seven Notes In Black' ('Setta Note In Nero', 1977) R1 USA DVD October 30th 2007.

One of those things we've kind of seemingly run dry of, good choices from European Horror (especially the 1970's) from good directors, and with good reputations. NoShame's downtime, Blue Underground's "Are they? Aren't they?" quietness, and the general mini slew of stuff in the past, has left us wanting a little action as far as USA releases go; the European releases of such films, if subbed, can come in a little on the expensive side, but on the up side we do see a second Mario Bava set late October 2007 also. Severin, who in recent times bought us a superb disc of Fulci's 'One on Top of the Other' as 'Perversion Story', will bring us Fulci's 'Seven Notes in Black' under the alternative title of 'The Psychic', coming this October 30th in America. From what I can see, this film has in the past been licensed by Tarantino and never released through his efforts, so it's nice to see it able to make an appearance - the film appears to be one of many often touted as one of Fulci's own personal favourites too.

If you haven't seen this film, I highly recommend it. Lucio Fulci was not only a master of gore, he could also churn out terrific, nail-biting suspense, and "Seven Notes in Black" is an excellent example. Plus, Jennifer O'Neill is in it; she supplies a great performance and just happens to be exceptionally hot.

Agreed, this is absolutely one of Fulci's best films. A first rate giallo with supernatural overtones. About time this gets a legitimate DVD release in English!

As far gialli goes this is certainly one of the more interesting. I didn't particularly care for it the first time I saw it at a QT Fest and welcome the chance to catch it again. I liked it but didn't fall in love with it. The ending and the flashes Jennifer O'Neill experiences have really stuck with me. Tarantino has this one on his long list of films to be made (well in this case remade with Bridget Fonda in the lead).

I still hope someone releases the full uncut version of One on Top of the Other. It has been my favorite Fulci film to date. Apparently their other release was the French version from what I've read.
