Lee Chang-dong's long-awaited return to filmmaking after a hiatus of almost 5 years, Secret Sunshine managed to re-affirm Lee's position as one of the pre-eminent directors of Korean and world cinema. Jeon Do-yeon won the prestigious Best Actress Award at the 60th Cannes Film Festival for her performance and was named by Variety as one of the 50 most influential people in the entertainment industry. In recognition of the light she cast on Korean cinema throughout the world, Jeon was also awarded the Okgwan Order Culture Merit by Korean Minister of Culture Kim Jong-min. The film also just happens to star Song Kang-ho, a Twitch favorite and one of Korea's most sought-after actors. The limited edition two-disc digipack distributed by Art Service Korea will feature anamorphic image for widescreen televisions (2.35:1) and optional English subtitles (on feature only). Bonus material includes audio commentary, making of, interview and theatrical trailer. The pricetag for the DVD is a little steep -- almost as much as the recent box set of Lee's first three films, and more in line with that of the Japanese releases -- which might lead some to wait for the Hong Kong release or the far-off US version.

Finally! I've been counting the days when this Lee Chang-dong film would be released on DVD. Any speculation as to when a Hong Kong release might be forthcoming relative to this edition? (I'll probably still bite the bullet and invest in this one...)
I imagine a Hong Kong release will follow within a month of the Korean one, but that's only a guess. I am also hoping that the pricetag of $39.99 is a typo, since that is even higher than the mfr.'s suggested list price. Most Korean LE DVDs sell in the neighborhood of $28.99.
I've been wondering since the release of the 2nd Lee Chang-dong Boxset, if there's gonna be a Set including Secret Sunshine in the near future. I'd love to have all 4 of them in the same Box, but then again, there's always gonna be a "next" movie. I don't want to hold on forever waiting to buy the collection, but on the other hand i'd be pretty bummed, if they would release another one in the not too distant future.
I think I'm going to have to get the Korean edition, been waiting forever for a good 2007 korean movie release.. Check out dvdfromkorea.com for a cheaper price.. Excellent service.. I'll be ordering this with the Lee Chang-dong boxset and Duelist. BTW what ever happened to koreandvdmovies.com?
