EASTERN PROMISES - New Trailer

by Kurt Halfyard, August 16, 2007 4:23 AM

Title says it all really. David Cronenberg's latest has a newer trailer online. While it is similar to the first, this one features testosterone loaded music and Mr. Movie voice. Lowest common denominator marketing. Rejoice!

However, there are also some new scenes in there for those that are curious. There is a link to the films nice new One Sheet at the bottom too. It is nice to see Vincent Cassel getting his name above the Title in an North American production.

Mmm. Looks mighty good. I wonder if it's going to be as graphic as A History of Violence.

i loved the first trailer and although the plot sounds generic I'm sure cronenberg can churn out the essence of those movies and make it a very good one. i liked hov as well, although I wish another masterful body-horror movie will be made someday. maybe an videodrome-update for current times.

Personally, I'm glad that Cronenberg himself is tired of making horror films and is more caught up in filming these Mephistophelian dramas. Eastern Promises delivers on so many levels. Cronenberg has refined his conceit of what lies beneath the skin to remind that the propensity to violence is the most horrific quality of all. This movie is WAY more graphic than History of Violence. At the screening I went to, critics were squirming around in their seats like earthworms on a hot griddle.
