New Spanish Theatrical Trailer For Elio Quiroz's LA HORA FRIA (The Cold Hours)

by Todd Brown, July 30, 2007 10:28 PM

If it seems like we've been writing about Elio Quiroz's post apocalyptic sci-fi / horror picture La Hora Fria for well nigh forever now, well, that's because we have. And for good reason! The film's a subtle little gem, one that's been winning raves on the European festival circuit and building up a quiet little following based entirely on word of mouth. And with the film finally having settled in with a sales agent and found homes in a good number of countries now, the time has finally come for it to roll out theatrically in its homeland and there is now a new theatrical trailer to promote the Spanish release.

Now, it's worth pointing out that this is one of those films that simply doesn't translate well to trailer form. Not that this trailer is bad - far from it - but the film is heavily based on slowly building tone and character work, neither of which translate to a two minute trailer so what you actually get in the film is significantly more than what you get in the trailer.

Hard not to like a film with Silke in it but I did find it a bit too uneven for my own taste the first go around. But then again I went in thinking it was going to be some type of Sci-Fi action film. What I got instead was a well acted character driven Post Apocalyptic drama with a killer ending. I'm sure when I see it again I will like it even more. Yes, I'm still buzzing about the ending!
