Anybody speak Danish out there? Because we could use a translation on this one, the available English language info being frustratingly vague, saying only that the film is a tragic comedy.
So, why care if I can't tell you much of anything about it? Two names. Paprika Steen and Anders Thomas Jensen. If you follow Danish film at all you've seen Steen in front of the camera a lot. She's one of the finest actors of her generation and she's taking the step behind the camera here. And Jensen? He's a brilliant writer and director in his own right, anything he scripts well worth following, the list of awards and nominations - he's got Oscar on that list many times now - on his resume just staggering. Yes, please.
Really looks amazing. It was a bit jolting watching this trailer back to back with the one from the new Wes Anderson film. I guess a remote chance lead characters with messed up faces, ha.
Speaking of Anders Thomas Jensen, I really hope his scripted Clash of Egos (which seems to poke fun at movie making biz) gets a home video release with English subs or I can find it at a fest soon!
Okay, so to those who do not speak Danish - With Your Permission (Till death do us part would actually be the proper translation) seems to be about a very unlucky guy who always hurts himself. Last week he walked into a door, this week it was something else. Or is it? His colleague asks him if his girlfriend hit him, at which point we cut to a dinner scene where she very angrily asks for the potatoes. He denies that anything is wrong, but from this short clip it does seem like he's getting beat up on a regular basis.
If Danish comedies are your bag, you're probably in for treat, but personally I thinks this looks like rubbish Check out Nicolai Acrel's Island of Lost Souls... That's a film we Danes can be proud of.

Jan and Bente are married, but have almost forgotten why. Jan works all day in a restaurant, located on a ferry, and when he comes home to Bente, he faces arguments all the way to beatings. Jan´s boss convinces Jan to go into therapy and there he meets the two small time criminals Rudy and Alf. They are willing to help Jan get rid of Bente, but when Rudy and Alf meets Bente for the first time they like her so much that suddenly it becomes very diffecult to be Jan.
