Can it be? Is it finally a return to form for Dario Argento? Could be, could be ... an awful lot of people certainly seem to think that La Terza Madre could well be the Italian horror-auteur's first truly memorable film in years and with the man himself scheduling upcoming appearances at the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear he certainly seems to be stepping out on this one in a way he hasn't in a while.

But enough speculation. The first trailer has arrived so you can take a look for yourself.

I really want to be excited about this, but though I count Argento as one of the reasons I got into in film in the first place, his output for over 20 years now has left a lot to be desired. I'll be intrigued to see if this tries to recapture some of the magic of the first two in the three mothers trilogy.

I'm in the same boat as you to a degree, Jasper -- Argento really roped me into a whole other realm of films, so it's hard to not look forward to this with a good deal of trepidation. Here's hoping it's a true return to form. The teaser looks good.

I was really into him mostly because of Suspiria, which was actually the only film I had seen by him when I was a teenager, then I saw Opera, Deep Red, Inferno and Tenebre and thought, why the hell was I excited about this guy? All beautiful films but story wise utter crap. People say that muddled, incomprihensible scripts are what make Argento work but that's a load of crap to me. Deep Red and Opera are one of the worst horror films ever made IMO.

This trailer didn't do much for me, mostly because it wasn't a very good trailer but I won't be buying this on DVD untill I know it's good.
