Grease 3? Top Gun 2?

by Felix Vasquez Jr., March 2, 2007 1:26 AM

In the yawn and eye rolls heard around the world, Paramount has decided to market on many of its profitable franchises with the DVD market, thanks to the successful "American Pie" spin-off sequels.

Intent on reviving their once dead properties to join in on the money grubbing, Paramount has joined the fray, starting up a new division to develop and produce sequels, prequels and remakes of popular titles from the libraries of Paramount Pictures, Paramount Vantage, DreamWorks, MTV Films and Nickelodeon Movies reports Slash Film.

Amongst the titles that could be on the list are Beverly Hills Cop, Crocodile Dundee, Clueless, Collateral, Coming to America, Days of Thunder, Deep Impact, Event Horizon, Face/Off, Forrest Gump, Ghost, Grease, Indecent Proposal, Tomb Raider, Mean Girls, Mission: Impossible, School for Scoundrels, Star Trek, The Addams Family, The Brady Bunch Movie, The Italian Job, The Longest Yard, The School of Rock, and Top Gun.

No word yet on which well deserved dead franchise will be revived yet, but the list Dark Horizons scooped is most likely only the tip of the iceberg.

One can only imagine the quality we'll receive from a "Forrest Gump 2."

It's strange that Paramount views Event Horizon as a succesful franchise since they couldn't be bothered to clean up the edited scenes from the film and give fans the original cut they've been asking for for years.

Some of the titles could be used as a springboard for good films, Starship troopers has the potential, even though Phil Tipped fucked up the sequel with a terrible film.

But Crocodile Dundee? Didn't that last film flop like nobody's business?

I agree that Starship Troopers still has plenty of potential. If Ed Neumeier gets to direct the third one and follows through on what he promised in an interview a while back I'll definitely give it a try. The original is one of the five best films of the 90ies.

The third Starship Troopers film is indeed scheduled to be directed by screenwriter Ed Neumeier.  IMDB says ---"Expected to begin shooting in March 2007 in South Africa."

Also, I think that Dirty Dancing 2, Carlito's Way 2 and Croc. Dundee 4 were all given theatrical releases...even though they certainly feel like DTV films.

THE ONLY WELL DESERVED SEQUEL THAT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE IS GREASE 3!!!!!  SET IT IN 1978, WITH ALL THAT FUN DANCE MUSIC, AND CREATE SOME NEW CHARACTERS, THAT WOULD BE ENTERTAINING. THEY DONT NEED TO RE-TELL THE SAME STORY, BEEN THERE, SEEN THAT!!!  COME ON HOLLYWOOD, I EVEN CAN COME UP WITH A STORYLINE OR TWO!!!!!!!!

Ok, and Terminator 4. I wouldn't mind seeing a post-Judgement Day sequel, since that's where T3 left us.

Terminator 4 is due out in theathers 2008, Arnold has signed on for a cameo...
