Night of the creepy monster squad

While I don't have any news from the Icelandic movie scene in my first official Twitch post I do want to use this forum to try to push two of my favorite films on to DVD where they deserve to be.

Like me Christopher MacGibbon is a huge fan of Night of the Creeps and The Monster Squad. Two of the most sought after cult films on the bootleg scene yet for some reason the studios who hold the rights to those films, Sony for Creeps and Paramount for Monster Squad, see no reason to quench the DVD thirst of those who buy those bootlegs every day on Ebay and other places. Unlike though me he has tried to do something about it. He has started a small campaign in August where he asks fans to write hard copy letters to the film’s right owners instead of online petitions that never seem to work. I actually didn’t know about this until yesterday when I came across a little article about it over at Davisdvd.com from last August. Here is what he had to say (from the davisdvd website)

"For years these two films have had many online petitions to be put out on DVD. Special editions are preferred, but as of now I think the horror community would settle for anything. And what I have been told is this: there is a chance to get these films on DVD, but we need to write the studios that own the rights to finally get them out there. I have made ads with the addresses of each studio along with an explanation on why writing a hard letter works better than an e-mail or an online petition.

A lot of people out there, young and old, want to see these movies get the DVD releases they deserve, fully re-mastered and loaded with features. And I believe they will fight to get them out there. All I need is some help from whoever is willing. I hope you will put these ads on your website, or at least the information contained in them, so people can hopefully get these two classics onto DVD."

Click the two images to get the addresses, and remember be courteous.

Like I said before these films are two of my all time favorite genre classics and I have no idea why this hasn’t been out on DVD for years since so many lesser films are released in great edition. The wonderful cable network Monsters HD sometimes airs a pristine looking print of The Monster Squad so that film has at least been restored, even though the aspect ratio in the new TV print is wrong. So what’s the friggin hold up?

Agree. He has a way with dialog that I haven't really seen before or since. The one that comes closest to him in that sense is his friend Shane Black who wrote Monster Squad with him.

I have a copy of his Godzilla 3D script that he wrote for Steven Miner in 1984 and even then his style is evident. Too bad he's not doing as much as he used to although he said he was working on a new horror flick. Let's hope it pulls through.

Monster Squad! You've got good taste, swarez. ;) I love that movie. Haven't seen it since I was 5, though.

Night Of The Creeps influenced more movies than I have time to mention.

Great, fun film.
