LOS ANGELES – At the American Film Market, First Independent Pictures has acquired the United States, Australian/New Zealand and South African distribution rights for the Douglas Coupland penned feature EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN with a theatrical release set for Spring 2007. The deal was made by the film’s international film sales company Shoreline Entertainment.
After starring in NBC’s Joey, EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN is the first return to screen comedies for actor Paulo Costanzo (Road Trip, 40 Days & 40 Nights) as a slacker tempted into a money-laundering scheme who struggles morally with ill-gotten gains while trying to find happiness. The film is directed by Paul Fox, his second feature after last year’s The Dark Hours.
EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN is the first story from popular author Douglas Coupland written specifically for the screen and not adapted from any previous works. Coupland is best known as the internationally best-selling writer of “Generation X”, “All Families Are Psychotic” and “JPod”. Recently, Coupland has rejoined with the producers to develop his follow-up sci-fi television project entitled EXTINCTION EVENT.
According to Morris Ruskin, CEO of Shoreline, “First Independent Pictures is passionate about the movie and they understand how to market sophisticated, witty independent films.” First Independent Pictures was formed in early 2004 by Gary Rubin, previously an exec vp of tv sales & acquisitions at Artisan. The company intends to focus on theatrical and ancillary distribution of high concept pictures such as David Mamet scripted Edmond, New York Dolls
Arthur “Killer” Kane doc New York Doll and director Danny Leiner’s The Great New Wonderful. “Douglas Coupland’s work is renowned and his first effort in features in no exception,” says Rubin. “This is also a terrific opportunity for our first foray into acquiring foreign territories.” Expected to accompany the release is a soundtrack from American music label Lakeshore Records and coordinating the Spring release date with ThinkFilm, its distributor in Canada.
EVERTHING’S GONE GREEN premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival, the winner of the Vancouver International Film Festival “CityTv Western Canada Feature Film Award,” the winner of the Edmonton International Film Festival “City Tv Canadian Feature Film Award”. Produced by Radke Films and True West Films, the film is partly financed by Telefilm Canada and the Harold Greenberg Fund.
