The official Hong Kong DVD of Sam Lee and Edison Chen action picture Dog Bite Dog is available for pre-order now.  Sharing a screen writer with SPL, Dog Bite Dog shares many of the same characteristics, prime among them a return to old school hard edged Hong Kong film making and an overwhelming concern with father-son relationships.  I've had the chance to see the film and while it dives deep into melodrama in the final act - which prominently features the worst ever version of 'You Are My Sunshine' - before arriving at its devastating conclusion the core story of the cold blooded Cambodian hitman (Chen) trying to avoid the obsessed dirty cop (Lee) while taking an abused girl to safety pays off strong.  So, yes, it could use an edit but, yes, it is also the old school, hard edged, bloody Hong Kong action film people have been hoping for.

While there is no firm word on whether the special features will be subtitled the film itself certainly will be and the release is formatted for all regions and thus is playable everywhere with no special equipment needed.

DDDhouse still has it coming out on September 28th. They'll have to fix that soon.

I need to see if I can get the screener back.  It was a quick loaner and I saw it too long ago to write an accurate review now.  It would be a better film if they ended it in Hong Kong instead of going to Cambodia and having Edison try to set up a family with the girl but the ending is absolutely vicious.  Acting from both of the leads is very good, action scenes are really down and dirty.  It's just a solid little film that puts everyone in shades of grey and puts them at each others throats.  It loses the thread a bit in the final act and gets really sentimental for a bit - people who found the family angle of SPL irritating will be driven nuts by this stretch as it goes much farther that way - but it's a film that's stuck with me for a good while ...
