... and it's sooner than you might think. The Weinstein Company has announced a North American release date of August 25th for the follow up to Ong Bak. No word yet how widespread the release will be, but it's coming soon, at least. This will be the shorter cut of the film requested by international sales agent TF1 after the Thai release prompted many comments about problems with the script - problems later acknowledged by the director and producers. I'm normally not a big fan of re-cutting films but this is one where I actually agree that a leaner cut could greatly improve things.
In related news it has also come ot that the eventual UK DVD release of the film will include both the western cut and the original, longer Asian cut. Hopefully this pattern will be repeated in North America so those who want the original version can get it as well.

I think the "Elephant Whisperer" would've been a better title! lol
Wow, this is certainly good news in that fans will get to see it earlier. I'm surprised the Weinsteins don't just cut out all the talking and have a 1 hour movie of fights.
'The Protector'? Is that in homage to Jackie Chan's crappy '85 Protector?
sorry, computer went retarded and i click it 3 times
I loved this movie so much that the thought of shortening it never even crossed my mind. Sure the plot is simplistic, but the action sequences are so mind blowing it really doesn't matter.
As far as cutting goes, although the plot has tons of problems, it's really the fight scenes which could use trimming. Every time Jaa gets into a scrape he faces up to about 400 guys who each attack him INDIVIDUALLY. We know he's gonna rip the head off each and every one of them, but it takes f*cking hours. Has nobody heard of the concept of diminishing returns?
@rob
in a martial arts movie the hero will always be attacked individually when he is attacked by a group otherwise it doesnt look good, its not a cartoon where 40 will jump on him and then he will crawl out under them while the rest still fighting
;-)
Did you also think it was ridiculous/boring when bruce lee did the same in almost every movie he made?
Keep up the good work Tony, glad to see there is finally someone who makes movies like this.
To be honest I just hope they don't cut the action scenes short, or trim the sound effects.
seen it, it's awesome. gotta love thai releases.
Finally I have Tom Yum Goong downloaded but its in Thai or something,Now I can understand the plot....Yeah Right like People watch fight movies for the plot,regardless This Movie kicks serios ASS! I just hope they keep all the action scences and shorten up the scences that involve talking.FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!And Ass kicking is not boring,if you can't appericate a movie where the guy does all his stunts,can actually fight and is cappable of what most of his movies portray then go watch a chick flick! Yeessh everbodies a crtic.
