It used to be easy: mother, father, and a couple of little rascals. But the canons of 가족주의 (familyism) have changed incredibly in the Korean society of the last few decades. And now even TV and Chungmuro are paying attention.
First it was TV Dramas like 굿바이 솔로 (Goodbye Solo) and 불량 가족 (Bad Family), redefining the concept of family as seen through traditional (patriarchal) values. And then comes Kim Tae-Yong's acclaimed 가족의 탄생 (Family Ties), which had the balls to release on the same day The Da Vinci Code moved its dinosaur feet in Korean theaters, and ended up facing a quick death. But let's forget about that, and look at the cast: Moon So-Ri of a truckload of nice films, Eom Tae-Woong of 부활 (Rebirth), super-veteran Go Doo-Shim playing his lover (!), Bong Tae-Gyu, Gong Hyo-Jin and last but not least talented youngster Jung Yoo-Mi of 사랑니 (Blossom Again). Kim Tae-Yong was co-director of 여고괴담 두번째 이야기 (Memento Mori), and although this film is very different, if you've seen the 1999 'horror' you know what to expect.
Seems like the window between theater run and DVD release is getting shorter, either to combat aggressive bitc... illegal uploaders/downloaders or just because. And who's complaining. Here's the Preorder.
