I would make up some sort of excuse for waiting two days to post this fantastic news about one of the all time greatest science fiction films only it's pretty much entirely inexcusable ...
There have been rumblings for a long time now - literally years - that a four disc DVD edition of Ridley Scott's Bladerunner is in the works, rumors that have floated for so long that all but the most die hard wrote them off as wishful thinking a long, long time ago. But they're true. The set is coming, it has a date, and the news gets even better.
Here's the skinny:
In September of this year there will be a two disc limited release of the currently available Director's Cut of the film. This will be available for just four months, will be available in DVD, HD-DVD and Blu Ray formats and feature the cut of the film currently known as the Director's Cut which isn't really a director's cut but which is preferable to the theatrical cut. This is good news on it's own, but not the big news here. Not by a long shot. Sometime in 2007, to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the film, Bladerunner will once again hit theater screens, this time in a true Director's Cut featuring restored scenes and the film re-jigged to be totally in line with Scott's original wishes. Later in 2007 you can expect the Ultimate Bladerunner DVD release: a four disc box set that will include the theatrical cut, Director's Cut and this new Final Cut as well as a fourth disc of extra features. Yum.

Yeah, read this already on different other sites and it's just AWESOME. BTW i love the original theatrical cut with the voice over and the ending etc. (perhaps even a bit more then the Director's Cut from the 90s...) But perhaps my opinion changes when i revisit all the cuts including that new final "Scott is satisfied" edition next year. Oh that reminds me that i still have to order the Director's Cut of "Kindom of Heaven" (which seems to kick unholy much arse) damnit.
Finally!!!
I just hope the Ultimate Blade Runner release will also be on HD and Blu-Ray. As for Kindom of Heaven, yes I thought it kicked a whole lot of ass but again I refuse to buy a DVD release that spreads the film over 2 discs. Hopefully it'll hit HD and/or Blu-Ray soon.
Really? Kingdom of Heaven is "good" as a directors cut?
praise jesus!
I was a projectionist when the 'Director's Cut' was shown in theaters. Even though I saw it about 500 times it never got old. Beautiful movie.
I play the Bladerunner soundtrack at least once a week - and that's been for 15 years now... so I guess I've played it over 500 times, and like Pelle, never got bored!
SWEET!!!!!!!!! A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!
Will we finally see the cut hospital scene?
