
John Turturro's genre-busting musical Romance and Cigarettes was one of my favorite films of last year's Toronto Film Festival but it has infortunately been locked in studio hell ever since, squeezed off the domestic release schedule thanks to studio mergers and manouverings and more and more looking as though it has been abandoned, lost thanks to money manouverings that have everything to do with money men protecting their personal stakes and to hell with everything else regardless of how good it may be.
Luckily, while the film may be all but lost here in North America, it is turning up on European release slates and a first trailer has turned up online. This thing will be an absolute bear to market and this particular trailer comes nowhere close to capturing the loopy energy that drives the thing but it does, at least, give you glimpses of the madness of Christopher Walken and Kate Winslet. If only they'd put in some of the musical numbers ...

Yeah, and that trailer comes nowhere close to catching how good it really is ...
That's good to hear. Most of the Toronto reviews I've read were lukewarm, and so I was getting worried there.
That trailer's the exact same as the American one that came out oh so long ago.
