The Chinese government has laid down an ulitmatum for the cast and crew of the film Everlasting Regret. Before the film can enter the Venice Film Festival certain scenes will have to be removed due to their sensitive nature revolving around the Cultural Revolution. If these scenes are not cut from the film it will not be allowed to go to the festival and the director Stanley Kwan and his actors, Sammi Cheng, Tony Leung, Daniel Wu, and Hu Jun among others will be blacklisted.

The authorities in China were not very happy of the sensitive issues being brought up on the Cultural Revolution and also how the movie portrays as life being very good before 1949 but gotten worse after that.

Kwan was contacted about this issue and he told the press that he was in the process of editing the film, as is the practice of filmmaking. He is not fretting over the situation and there does not appear to be any more comments towards the stance the Chinese government has taken.

Just saw the film tonight in Singapore. It was wonderful, full of emotion and subtilities as Chinese films always are. The difference in life before and after the 'big leap' still transpires, of course. If you liked it, also see Balzac and the little Chinese Seamstress, which came out a few years ago. Sammi Cheng came by the viewing tonight, she's even more beautiful in real life! /Cheers all
