Spotted this has popped up in discussion about awaiting the reissue / remaster for the USA of Takashi Miikes astonishing 'Audition'. Far from being a superbly written piece, the direction of the suspense and shock elements are so well pieced together. Preaching to the converted though, I think.
Heres the specification / special features from Lions Gate Films site :
Theatrical trailers. Director Interview. Director commentary. Director introduction. Director Biography/filmography. Photo gallery. Liner notes. Bravo’s 100 Scariest Movie Moments segment. Ryu Murakama Interview. Widescreen (1.85:1). New transfer with removable English subtitles. Japanese 5.1 Dolby Digital surround.
...And yes, I personally love the artwork. Glad I am not going to see another variation on that image in its' original colour scheme. By this stage, hopefully it isn't considered a spoiler.
Lions Gate Films page for the film is here.

only thing that would make this perfect would be a theatrical release the week before...
so, wait, my oop version isn't worth money on eBay anymore? DAMN IT! :)
I sold mine for $150 right at the start of the new year, since I knew this was coming out. If you list yours now, you might do alright
Wow ... I like film and all, and I've been known to pay premium prices for a hard to find flick, but $150? That guy's nuts ...
Whhen I saw the old edition clocking in at 99 bucks on Ebay-- ouch! That's just too much for a DVD.
Sorry for repeating the post, my page didn't update!
Say what you will about the bulk of the Miike Canon, Audition is undoubtedly a masterpiece. I really don't know why people like Gozu or Ichi so much, but you've got to respect a filmmaker who can put them out as fast as he can in this day and age.
Ok, Log, I'll check them out. Cheers!
I'm right there with Logboy on Bird People and Zebraman, both are fantastic films. I'm one of those who really likes Gozu as well though that one is very surreal and Lynchian ... I really like Rainy Dog, too. A fantastic performance from Sho Aikawa in that one ...
While I agree that some critics over do the Miike praise the thing about him is that he so consistently manages to re-invent genre and create original work in tired genres on nothing budgets. He's a trash film auteur. The big issue for me when dealing with him is the overwhelming amount of violence against women ... I did a stretch of four or five Miike films in a row where every one included some sort of graphic rape scene and it just got to be too much. I started turning them off when those sequences hit ...
I'm probably the only person who doesn't associate Miike with gruesome movies. I only know the guy from such movies as Bird People In China, Happiness Of The Katakuris and Zebraman. Great stuff if you ask me. :)
Next to Kung Fu Hustle and The Incredibles, Zebraman was the most 'pure fun' I had in a theatre in 2004.
Well, I know this may be a little "off-topic", but... where are you guys calling from? I'm going to London this weekend (from Thursday to Sunday) and I'd be pleased to receive some first-hand tips about DVD shops, good cinemas and screenings. Have you got any ideas, pals? Is there any event I just shouldn't miss...?
Thanks beforehand!
It amazes me at how underated Shinjuku Triad Society is its a Taxi Driver for the 90's.
Logboy, thanks a lot for your kind tips. I'll look around on HMV and Virgin (the places I use to buy when I'm in London) and I'll also take a peek into that shop you mentioned, Forbidden Planet - sounds good. Thanks again! Cheers!
Hi everyone,
Back now. Definitely, London is not the cheapest place in terms of DVD's... But I bought a damn lot of titles, however, mainly national stuff such as Layer Cake and Dead Man's Shoes. And second volume of Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense, which includes one thing I had been searching for years and years -- Child's Play, that incredibly scary story about a family trapped on a house full of strange phenomena (overall, a heat from hell). Has anyone seen this? It scared the hell out of me when I saw it as a child.
i would watch and buy hammer but its not been clearly laid out anywhere so i can see whats of interest. i quite like some of the other british horror studio stuff thats out there too...
