Now this is an interesting turn of events ... last I heard the North American rights to Wong Kar Wai's 2046 were held by Fox Searchlight but a reader just dropped a note to point out that pointing your browser to www.2046themovie.com redirects you to the Sony Pictures Classics website. And though they've yet to announce the film as part of their stable a WHOIS search on that site says that Sony registered the domain on January 25th so it would appear - to me at least - that they've just recently made the aquisition and are getting their stuff lined up before making any sort of official announcement ... nothing against Fox, but if this pans out it makes me a happy boy. Given the universally high quality treatment Asian properties receive at Sony's hands they are definitely the studio that this should be going through ...
Thanks to Mary.

At the WKW message board, I've read that Tony has said he was "too busy and would probably not feature in WKW's new movie with Nicole Kidman. He said he needs to promote in the US in May or June, and would work on Alan Lau's new movie in July." So - "May or June", hopefully.

This is great news. 2046 deserves all the proper treatment. Hopefully they'll release all the deleted scenes.

Yup, good stuff. Might be too complicated for non WKW fans to understand though. Chang Chen (of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon fame) and who has been in a handful of WKW-produced movies has volunteered for a role. Sucks that Tony can't wait this movie, and is doing Alan Mak's thriller.
