Once Again, Who Knew?
The Hong Kong Film Critics Society has announced their annual awards and at the top of the heap? Their pick for best of the year? Is it 2046? Kung Fu Hustle? Dumplings? Anything by perpetual, though confusing, favorite Johnnie To? Nope. The big award went to:
McDull, Prince De La Bun. An animated film about a pig. A compellingly strange choice ... enough so that I'm probably going to have to order myself a copy of this now ...

Derek Yee won best director for One Nite In Mongkok! And for good reason... it's an amazing film.

both mcdull films have been on my list for ages. i think you can buy both together at yesasia.com ...
confusing range of options for mcdull though as its a major franchise... anthony wong is on eof the voices... i have all the trailers somewhere... cool looking films.

Yeah, I've heard good things about McDull but have never seen it either. Anthony Wong was going to be my only reason for picking it up, but if it won that award over all those otehrs, it has to be pretty good...Right?

well the quality of the animtion in the trailers is lovely... just lovely... and the style / atmosphere in it looks very nice too...

I saw some McDull shorts on a plane a while back. Very strange stuff. I've also read places that the humour is very rooted in Cantonese punnery, and is extremely difficult to translate.
