Official House of Flying Daggers Poster!

DAGGERS_1sheetsmall.jpgWhee! Sony has just released the North American poster for The House of Flying Daggers. Now, I'm going to refrain from going on a rant about the piss-poor artwork a certain other company has been foisting upon their Asian releases other than to say this: the little things count. Sony obviously understands this, because that is one beautiful poster for one beautiful film.

Click here to check it out in a much larger, higher resolution format, and here to read my review of the film from the Toronto Film Festival screening. You've got to scroll down a bit to get to the HOFD bit ... you'll figure it out ...

I applaud Sony for creating this beautiful poster. It's still not as good as the DVD cover for the Japanese Region 2 DVD but still great overall. This craps on the Miramax Hero poster by all means. I found to be House of Flying Daggers to be exhilarating on many levels but I found the ending to be implausible and a bit too melodramtic. The final shot combined with Kathleen Battle's singing left me teary eyed though.

Man, that Japanese set is just sick ... if it had English subs I'd be so there ...

Awful poster for such a lovely looking film, Give me the hero poster anyday.

OK poster. Could have been better but it's still a lot better than anything done by Miramax.

I'm actually seriously considering getting the Japanese DVD unless the Korean DVD is really good. I think there are subtitles available somewhere on the net and combined with dvdsubber, I could just add them over the picture - although that means I can only watch the film on my computer but since I don't even have a standalone dvd-player it's not a huge loss.

Oh, and I'm not sure what the big deal is about that limited Japanese set. If I translated correctly, it just has a strange packaging, a photoframe and some postcards - otherwise it's identical with the cheaper, non-limited edition which has both the discs the limited edition has. I think I'd rather go for the cheaper, non-limited one even though I'm a huge fan of LE DVDs.

I think if you've seen the movie you'll understand that it relates the colour and beauty really well.

Bought the Edko disc from yesasia.com. Somewhat disappointed with the transfer...Holding out for Criterion to start releasing Yimou's films. HofD would be a nice start!

I would consider buying the japanese version, if I already hadn't plunked down $20 for the Edko disc.
