Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Shi No Otome. aka Maiden of Death. and Ghost Cop.
Kind of semi-vague this. Big fan of Kiyoshi Kurosawa personally. Lovely films.
Anyhow, I know IMDB lists "Ghost Cop" as his latest entry after "Doppelganger" (which i personally loved), but according to jasongray.net there's also "Shi no Otome" or "Maiden of Death) to come. The site, which i found yesterday, shows in a september post and a couple of small pics. Jason says he has a copy of the screenplay but hasn't read it (he's also in the film!) - it's also apparent Jason has connections with Artsmagic and seems to be conducting interviews for other DVD releases.
"Ghost Cop" i believe to have been shown at a recent "Cop Film Festival" in Japan, but i cant find any more info. "Shi No Otome" (as far as i know) han't been mentioned anywhere other than Jasons' site. Anyone got any more on either of these?

I met Kurosawa-kantoku again last night at a party connected with the Tokyo Film Festival, but didn't ask about "ghost cop", sorry. To make up for it, I searched Japanese sites and come up with this (maybe the first English scoop?).
"Ghost Cop" (original title "Rei deka" -- have to confirm which reading of the kanji was used) is one of 12 short films in the latest installment of Makoto Shinozaki's "Deka Matsuri" (Cop Festival) series of compilation films. If you haven't heard of this series, series originator Shinozaki compiles short films held to a strict 10 minute max running time that have to center around a cop or cops and contain at least one gag per minute. The films are made by young filmmakers and veterans alike, with a beautiful 60s-style poster made for each collection. Kurosawa's was actually shot in early 2003. He's appeared in at least one other director's short in the series.

Synopsis: "A ghost cop tracks down some bank robbers. But in the face of horrific terror, the group of criminals..."
Viewer Review: "I can remember the black turtleneck sweater-wearing ghost cop (sound like a director you know? -jg), but I can't remember what the hell kind of story there was!"
Kurosawa: "It was a real pain! (laughs) But in an effort to be the best, I thought making the stupidest of the shorts would be good...But perhaps there are even stupider ones than mine."
For Hong Kong movie fans, this also marks the return to the screen of Yukari Oshima, star of many action films in the late 80s-mid 90s. She was the action coodinator on Hidekai Anno's recent Cutie Honey (which I did the English subtitles for).

ah, seen that site : didnt work out exactly the connection ... btw : if you meet kurosawa again i would really appreciate an autograph (on a chirashi or something?)... go on... please... would love to meet him myself... probably the most substantial film maker in japan today. awesome... thanks for the post...!
