Sony Pictures Classics lands distro rights for WKW's 'Ashes of Time Redux'

(Posted In Action Asia Cult Drama Film News Martial Arts )

Ashes-of-Time.jpgSony Pictures Classics has picked up North American distribution rights to Wong Kar Wai's Ashes of Time Redux. The film is represented by Fortissimo Films. Ashes of Time Redux is a reworking of WKW's only martial arts pic. It is in post-production and it is expected to be completed late this year, typical of a WKW film. Who wants to bet it will be delayed even later? Just kidding, but you know what I mean about a WKW film being on time. It just doesn't happen. Just a reminder of some of the names involved with this film Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Tony Leung Kar-fai, Brigette Lin, Maggie Cheung and the late Leslie Cheung; the cream of the crop of HK actors and actresses.

How exactly was it reduxed? Is it just a new edit with previously unseen footage put back in or did WKW actually film new stuff or is it even a complete remake?

It's simply a new edit. No new footage was shot but it may include footage shot but not in the orig cut.

Thanks for clearing that up. Was hard to tell from reading this article.

It's completely re-edited and yes from what I hear it'll include footage that was shot but not in the original cut...I've heard he's done extensive work on it fiddling around with scenes and also rescoring the entire film, etc...I'm pretty pumped and curious to see what he does with it.
