We've been awaiting a proper trailer for Asger Leth's Ghosts of Cite Soleil ever since the film was announced as part of the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival but, although the official website was loaded with clips from the film, there has been no actual trailer until now. This thing, frankly, looks absolutely astounding. A documentary film about two youth growing up in the slums of Haiti, Ghosts is very likely the closest look at the life of extreme poverty and the violence it breeds ever put on camera. This is the sort of material that inspired City of God but while that film was a fictionalized retelling based on actual events what we're getting here are the actual events themselves. How Leth got this close is beyond me ...
