Marché du Film: Gregory C. Parker & Christian Pindar's LYCAN

(Posted In Action Film News Horror Trailer Alert USA and Canada )

lycan.jpgDistribution rights for Gregory C. Parker and Christian Pindar's Lycan are to be offered for sale by Spotlight Pictures LLC at this year's Marché du Film in Cannes, which runs from May 16th to 26th. The movie had its world première at Showcase Cinemas North Haven in North Haven, Connecticut on December 6th of last year.

The screenplay for Lycan was written by Parker and Pindar. The movie apparently stars Michael Dionne, Christy Cianci, Tamara Malawitz, Phil Gauvin, Adam Loewenbaum, Michael Wrann (he's also in Nathan Wrann's Hunting Season), Lance Hallowell, Greg Nutcher, Kirsten Babich, and Jennifer Marsella.

Here's a description of Lycan from Spotlight Pictures' website: "In Germany, hunters have trapped and captured the mythical Lycanthrope beast, and they plan to secretly ship the creature to China. Boxed away, the monster is shipped off, but - due to a shipping mistake - the crate ends up on the East Coast of America. There the box is mistakenly opened by its new 'owners' - a group of pyrotechnic workers who are working on a major fireworks display. Inside lies the Lycanthrope, only it has reverted back to its original form - a beautiful young woman. ¶ Within no time, the Lycan is on a killing spree, and the local workers begin to get killed one by one. In the end, it becomes a battle between the local workers and the mysterious beast. ¶ Part outright terror flick, part tongue-in-cheek homage to classic horror films, Lycan is a CGI and special make-up effects thrill ride!!!"

how original to use the same nine inch nails song that was used in the 300 trailer

» Posted by skitzo at April 19, 2007 06:21 AM

So what? Approximately 381 trailers have used the REQUIEM FOR A DREAM soundtrack. And let's not forget that every cheap action flick seems to use "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" for its trailer. So long as they pay the artist what they are due I don't see what the problem is. Lack of originality? Shocking...

Never mind Requiem, what about Aliens? The music for the countdown-to-explosion was in every single trailer for a while. Trailers often aren't made for us but for sporadic cinema-visitors, and if it worked once it may work again!

What I do hope they will drop soon are those endless quickie-fade-to-black cuts. They induce headaches!

So these guys ripped off the artwork for Van Helsing and the name from Underworld. Sounds great.

VAN HELSING ripped off the artwork from VAMPIRE HUNTER D: BLOODLUST.

True but it's not as blatantly stolen as this. This Lycan Artwork could be used as an excuse to sue them since it's the same picture drawn by someone less talented and then stretched in photoshop.

It's pretty sad to go through the trouble of producing a movie and then ripp off very well known artwork and claim it as your own.

Oof Swarez,
That's brutal. But true.

I went to their myspace site and saw that they are not using this as the poster, fortunately for them. Sad thing is that the stolen poster is better than the one they made.

True the poster rips off Van Helsing, but they (Spotlight pictures) actually did obtain the rights. They also got the rights for the 300 music. Not very original, but neither is how they cut the trailer. This artwork is also just for forein release and the domestic company will do their own artwork and trailer. Unfortunatly none of these artistic decisions are in the hands of the Directors of the film. You would have to be Kubrick for that.
How do I know all this? Because I am one of the Directors of the film. You can check out our original trailer (on our myspace page below) with "Paint It Black" as the song and blame us for that if you want. Although take into consideration that we had to cut it in one sitting and we're only half way done with principal photography at the time...........................................

I just saw the new trailer for Lycan and it outshines the old, but I'm pissed that I still didn't get my name in the credits. Oh well such is life.
