I'll be honest with you. The last person I ever thought I would get a story lead from would be my dad. But there it was in my inbox this morning; an e-mail from my old man introducing me to a new film festival starting up in Vancouver this year.
Running the weekend of April 6th through 8th the Taiwanese Film Festival hopes to bring attention to the small island and its unique cultural offerings to the world of cinema. Starting small this year, 6 films will be screened at the Norm Theater on the University of British Columbia campus. An equal division of 3 feature films and 3 documentaries
The lineup:
Do Over - Hope arising amidst the chaos of Taipei city life. [feature]
Jump! Boys - Leaping dreams of Yilan's little gymnasts. [documentary]
Eternal Summer - Friendship and passion, distilled by the waters of Hualian. [feature]
Let it Be - Unsung songs of the heroes amongst the Tainan paddy fields. [documentary]
The Rhythm in Wulu Village - The fading voices of the Taidong Bunun aboriginal heritage. [documentary]
Blue Cha Cha - Social outcasts' vibrant dance of life at the heart of Kaohsiung. [feature]
And you cannot go wrong with an individual ticket price of $3.50 or $15.00 for a pass to all six films, four of which will screen twice that weekend. Visit the official site for ticket details and schedule.
Thanks for the heads-up. I think I might try to check this out.
