[Korean Film News] Anticipation for Park Chan-Wook's Film Grows

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) writes that as the release of Park Chan-wook's rom-com I'm A Cyborg, But That's OK approaches, anticipation is growing and the director is becoming a media magnet. Asked about the film's departure from the Korean auteur's previous works, often dark and violent, Park reassuringly muses, "Believe it or not, I made this film." Park, who studied philosophy, said that the film deals with the "purpose of existence", but rather than letting rational thinking people like doctors determine what and how, he explores "how to live" and love through a girl who thinks she's a cyborg and a boy who believes that he can steal human qualities. Park's unique approach includes forgoing the usual drab clinical look generally associated with mental institutions to create a colorful setting which he says supports the story and the characters. Mark Russell was at the press screening and praises the visuals and editing, but found the story rather plain-jane and the characters too over-the-top. The film will be released on Dec 7th.
