삼거리 극장 (Midnight Ballad for Ghost Theater) Teaser Trailer Released

(Posted In Asia Comedy Cult Horror Musical Random Festival News Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert )

samgeorigeuk.jpgLet's say, just hypothetically, that one of your industry's best films of the last five years gets ripped off by Bollywood, calling it something like Zinda. So how do you react? Sue them? Noooo, Korea is going all Bollywood on us!

First it was 다세포소녀 (Dasepo Naughty Girls), a sort of Bizarro World Musical interpretation of 색즉시공 (Sex is Zero), then we have the upcoming musical 구미호 가족 (The Fox Family). The badass SF omnibus 인류멸망보고서 (Doomsday Book) will also feature little bits of musical tropes (at least one part), and last but not least we have Jeon Gye-Soo's 삼거리 극장 (Midnight Ballad for Ghost Theater). This one opened just a few days ago at PiFan, and is releasing in Korean theaters next month.

Plot? To save an old theater from going belly up, ghosts and humans get together and... dance. Sing. And things like that. Ain't that enough? Dancing ghosts. Oh mama...

HOLY CRAP! When did Tim Burton move to Korea? The PiFan site's comparing this to Rocky Horror, which is a pretty bold claim ...

And do tell more about Doomsday Book ...

Plenty of snippets about Doomsday Book in the Archive. Still nothing solid enough to do a preview, but we'll talk a lot about it in the next few months.

Apparently, reading Q's review over at DJUNA's board, most of the Tim Burton characters in Ghost Theater were pretty ordinary, but we'll see.

Don't know how it'll turn out at the box office, but there's definitely a SF trend building in Korea. When Bong Joon-Ho is done with the Tokyo omnibus he's doing Snowland Train, and he said that'd be big budget SF stuff.
