The official website for Paprika, the latest by Satoshi Kon - the much acclaimed director of Millennium Actress, Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers and Paranoia Agent - is now online. At present the site is just a holding page but you know I'll be checking back frequently for images over the next few weeks. The film is slated for a November release in Japan so the floodgates of images and trailers should be opening soon.
As previously mentioned here the film is an adaptation of a science fiction novel revolving around a female detective who solves crimes by entering into people's dreams - a remarkably similar premise to Shinya Tsukamoto's upcoming Nightmare Detective though I have no doubt the two auteurs will come up with very distinct takes on the idea. Joining Kon on this one is screen writer Seishi Minakami who also penned the script for Kon's Paranoia Agent.
Anime or live-action?
Anime. I don't think Kon's ever done live action ...
Not to my knowledge. There's a live-action Perfect Blue, but as far as I know that's not him.
Kon has never directed a live-action film, but he is credited as a writer on Katsuhiro Otomo's live-action "World Apartment Horror." (Kon was the artist on the "World Apartment Horror" manga.)
I've not seen the live-action film (which indeed wasn't Kon), nor have I read the original "Perfect Blue" novel (upon which Kon's film and the live film are based), but my understanding is that the live-action film is a much more faithful adaptation of the book while Kon's film uses the book as a jumping-off point to take the story in a different direction.
The live action Perfect Blue was directed by Toshiki Sato, one of the Four Devils of the Pink Film of the 90s. The script was written by the original novelist (forgot his name), unlike the anime version, which Kon almost completely rewrote. So the live action one was an attempt to make something truer to the original book, though is hampered by a rather low budget. Ironically, considering the background of its director, it has nothing in the way of blood and tits, unlike the anime version.

this is more of a question than a comment. There was a web-site featured in the film and I was curious if it worked. I believe it was somethinglike www.musicclub.jp, but I am not 100% certain, if that was it, there is no site because I checked. Someone help me out please.
The website's radioclub.jp You'll get an "error" message but it will give a link to the real site. I believe it's the first hyperlink you'll see.
