The completed version of Mark Savage's Defenceless: A Blood Symphony is scheduled to have its world première at the (Yet) Another Hole in the Head film festival in San Francisco on Saturday June 10th at 11:30 p.m., and to subsequently be screened there on Monday June 12th at 2:30 p.m.. (Thanks to Fangoria for this information.) The movie was screened as a work in progress at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival (MUFF) on July 18, 2004. Some time that year, Savage kindly e-mailed me a large JPEG of a poster for it (see the bottom of this article).
The screenplay for Defenceless: A Blood Symphony was written by Savage. The movie stars Susanne Hausschmid, Bethany Fisher, Karen Walsh, Anthony Thorne, Mitchell Turner, George Gladstone, Colin Savage, and Richard Wolstencroft.
Here's a description of Defenceless: A Blood Symphony from the MUFF website: "This is Mark's most raw and shocking feature, more reminiscent of his early Super-8 work and is a real contribution to Australian underground cinema. In "Defenceless", vengeance springs from a watery grave after the life of an environmental campaigner is destroyed. Beauty rides shotgun with brutality in a stark portrait of bloody retribution that, ultimately, celebrates the awesome power of a woman who is never more than a lady (well perhaps a zombie) and never less than a terrifying force of nature. A grotesque examination of a love that conquers death and emotional bonds no knife can cut, this is strong, uncompromising horror with no concessions made for the weak of stomach and NO DIALOGUE. Yes, you heard right, this is a film beyond the text of the written word and also a fittingly Violent close to our theme this year. The film stars German actress Susanne Hausschmid as living dead girl Elizabeth Peace plus special appearances by Colin Savage and our own MUFF man Richard Wolstencroft, so be warned. Defenceless is seldom a pretty picture."
