Death Note Trailer

(Posted In Asia Horror Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert )

deathnote-poster.jpgLess than a week ago we posted a link to a teaser for the live action movie of Death Note. Already there is a trailer online either in windows media or swf format. I'm not too familar with the manga but I get the impression from the footage that its going to be a cat and mouse thriller with a supernatural twist. Be sure to watch till the very end of the trailer to see something cool.

On a related note, the Red Hot Chili Pepper song "Dani California" will be the main theme for the movie. To hear the song, head over to their site.

Death Note is schedule for theatrical release in Japan on June 17.

Awesome! Looking forward to it!

I don't know, it looks pretty bad. And that song doesn't even remotely fit.

» Posted by crazybee at April 27, 2006 07:10 PM

Fujiwara should have kept his BR1 do. When I imagined that, I thought he was a very appropriate choice, however, yes, as he is in the film, it's kinda off from what I imagined. I'm very interested in seeing the quality of the film considering their plan to release the two installments (which I assume will cover both arcs) in the same year.

Looks good so far; L looks great. From the little shown, the actor seems to have captured his mannerisms well.

Well I think this trailer looks good. The song is kinda off, but I think the movie will rock anyway^^
The manga is brilliant, and I hope that they portray the characters in the movie just as clever and intellegent as in the manga.

» Posted by fetchfox at April 28, 2006 12:57 PM

I haven't read all of the manga, but it is indeed very intellectual and thrilling. If the movie is anything like the manga series, then it should be brilliant.

I've read all of the current manga for Deathnote, and yes, it is just exactly that: a cat and mouse thriller with a supernatural twist. A shinigami or a "grim reaper" comes to earth out of boredom with its death note, a notebook in which a name can be written on it and other information can be followed such as the time of death and the cause. If no cause or time is written, the said person will die in 40 seconds from a heart attack. Also, the tricky part is you have to know what the person whose name you write looks like to avoid killing others with the same name, otherwise the notebook won't kill anyone. So here we've got a notebook that can kill anyone anywhere so long as you know their name and what they look like. How can anyone seriously track down a "killer" that has this kind of ability? Enter Japan's greatest detective, L. It pretty much goes on from there, but the demon thing at the end of the trailer is Ryukuu, the owner of the Deathnote that pretty much flies around Raitou Yagami, the possessor of the notebook in the human world and is amused by everything that transpires and will probably be a comic relief in the movie. From the trailer, you can see the character Misa Amane, but I can't elaborate on that without spoiling the story for those of you who haven't read the manga.

I loved it.

I can tell you one thing: people die.

» Posted by evergreen at April 29, 2006 06:23 PM

I can't wait for it. I've read up to 4 in the manga and I just find it interresting that they're making a live action film and not an anime.

One question...
When will it release in the U.S.?

What do you think about Dani California by the Red Hot Chili Peppers as the theme song? It's a little suprising to me.

» Posted by Ashelin at April 29, 2006 11:26 PM

after reading the first Death Note volume, i cannot put the series down! It constantly has Light and L shifting their advantages over each other, while keeping the suspense between the two and the readers constant(besides Ryuk; he just sits back and enjoys the show with an apple or two...)! Making Death Note into a real life movie is one of the smartest moves that film maker could make! I can't wait!

» Posted by Wakko at April 30, 2006 01:05 PM

Wow. I can't believe they're making a motion picture before an anime was even made. (Actually, an anime is currently in progress, but the motion picture was done first!) Ryuk (that face at the end) looks just amazing, and if you pause it there, you'll see his design is flawlessly done by the animators. Light looks good, and the story looks good. The talking computer was cool. I don't know that much about the manga, as I've only read a preview of it, but I'm definately awaiting this movie: this is definately coming to America!

» Posted by veshira at April 30, 2006 05:35 PM

you should go to http://www.thespectrum.net/ to find out more about the manga; they have up to volume 8 posted on there.

the movie looks fantastic! they captured light and l's looks almost to the letter. the cool looking guy at the end was ryuuku, and read the manga if you want to find out more! i'm highly looking forward to this. too bad the trailer wasn't such good quality though (but this was better than the one on the official website, haha).

hmm do you guys know who plays L and who plays Yagami Raito?

» Posted by riana at May 3, 2006 04:39 AM

Tatsuya Fujiwara plays Raito Yagami and Ken'ichi Matsuyama as L.

I have high expectations of this film, the trailer is looking good so far. Hopefully Tatsuya Fujiwara can act better in this than Battle Royale I & II. No offence to his fans, but I don't think he can act.

If you read manga's or want to get into some manga's, I suggest reading Death Note. You won't regret it.

T_T dude. You gave it away for everyone. (well x-cept for us who already knew)

» Posted by Hotaru at May 14, 2006 05:12 PM

Man, Chapter 58 of the manga made me cry...

But anyways, about the live action.

Raito is a bastard and can burn in hell. I only want to see my L. And is N/Near/Nia (and Mero/Mello) gonna be in the live action? I hope so. Near's a cutie pie face. And I'm guessing it'll release in the US, but I swear to god if they even try and dub it I will kill someone. Most likely the evil dubbers. I thought Raito looked a bit off, but ehh, that's me. L was pretty good, but it's impossible for me to hate him. ^^ I think the person playing Sayu is perfect for the role. And hehe...Raye. Hard to mess him up.

Also, I was really skeptical about the "Dani California" too. But then I downloaded it and listened to the whole song. It's a pretty cool song, but I'm still not sure if it really fits well with the movie =/

All I can do now is wait for the movie so I can point out all the parts that make it obvious Raito and L are gay

Well, this is something I'm looking for. A subbed version of the trailer. I was kinda starting to do it myself, but I realized that catching all of the words was a hell of a lot tougher then it seemed. If anyone has a link or anything, even a transcript of what is said, I would be your bestest buddy forever. ^_^

People don't seem to realize that our movies are so much different from Japanese movies- Their horror is scary to them, and to us- not so scary.

This really does look like a decent movie. From what I've read of Death Note so far- it seems pretty accurate. I'm all excited to see it.

» Posted by kanashii at June 2, 2006 11:10 PM

i think it was great for those of you that have read the manga don't spoil it.

» Posted by star at June 15, 2006 01:11 AM

Hmm...
I think it's a good movie. But because of this movie they delayed on making the manga, so it ended on chapter(page) 108..
But the trailer is cool XD i like it..
Btw, this movie is divided into 2 part. One is about L investigations on Kira and the second is about the fight between L and Kira...
Well all we can do is wait, isn't it?

» Posted by Alex at June 26, 2006 03:39 AM

Oh my god!
I can't believe there makin g this into a movie.
I was like " hey! wouldn't this make the bestest movie?"
And, oh my goD!
I found this!
Hope the damn actors and directors are decent, though.
Cause if there not, I'll kill 'em.

» Posted by Cain at August 1, 2006 06:10 PM

Hmm it does look good, but.. its not really supposed to be horror.... I hope that dosent mess the movie up

But the guy playing L looks perfect

I love death note more than any other movie tvshow book videogame or manga i've seen/read. But i must say, just from watching the trailer. i'm dissapointed with how they made the movie. First of all, the actors look way off compared to the comics, espcially Raito (light). They should look like this instead...

http://www.gregsuzuki.com/taisuke/deathnote/

Second of all, i dont see how Dani California has anything to do with Death Note, it doesn't fit in at all, and that worries me. Lastly, they should have really put some effort into making Ryuk look believable; even video games have better CG than what was shown in the footage.

despite these things, I hope the movie is good, i'm planning to see it soon as i'm on vacation in japan.

Uhmm ok hang on - I saw the first half of the first movie.

From what I've seen, its a brilliant movie. It follows the manga by 99% and the
actors are quite good (but they dont look like the characters from the mangas -
but I think thats actually quite ok, since NOBODY looks exactly like a manga
character :-p)

L looks fantastic, no doubt, but Light... hhmmm.. room for discussion here. I
think the Shinigami look fairly cool too, kinda remind me of a 90's videogame,
but I guess its the better option than real actors. They're also a nice
contrast. The only thing they forgot there was Ryuuku's shadow..(in some places)
>_>

All in all, its a dark movie. Night time, dark NPA offices, gloomy Light's room
and bad weather.. (from what I've seen) But its the perfect atmosphere! Has a
really nice touch to it.

In my opinion, the melody of Dani California by the RHCP fits 100%, but the
lyrics? Its not set in California, in fact, it has nothing to do with
California. But if we overlook that, the song is fitting.

If you can speak Japanese your lucky, for what I know, the movie wont come out
in english for quite a while... I've actually always asked myself why the
producers are allways so slow when it comes to translating. Would they make much
more money if they brought out both the english and japanese version at (about)
the same time? And since the manga is such a huge succes, also in english, why
would they have reason to doubt the english movie's success? No answer...

They could at least do the official website in english :-p

I'm terribly critical, so I guess ye guys could subtract about 20% of my
critisism ^_^ But I have to say: in conclusion, I really love this movie, and I
cant wait till its comming out in english! If it doesnt, we gotta start learning
japanese *LOL*
