A Quick Word On Slither ...

(Posted In Comedy Film News Horror Sci-Fi / Fantasy USA and Canada )

slither.jpgA full review of James Gunn's Slither will be coming either tomorrow or Friday from Jim - who saw it with the director in attendance, the lucky man - but I just got back from an advance screening and wanted to post a quick word or two while I'm still buzzed about it.

1. Best film of the type since Tremors. Easily.
2. Gunn is a fearsomely talented writer, loading things up with snappy dialogue and stacks of well developed characters.
3. Effects are great, thanks largely to an emphasis on practical effects rather than CGI wherever possible.
4. If he wants to be Nathan Fillion can be a genre film god. He's just fantastic. The man's got this dry sense of irony and understatement that makes him both very funny and very believable in whatever ridiculous situation you put him in.
5. Watch for the animatronic deer. You'll know it when you see it.
6. It needs a little more splatter at the end to push it into b-film classic territory, but as it stands it is very, very good. Lots of fun and well worth the cost of admission.

It's times like this that make me hate people like you?

When's my turn to see stuff early? When's my turn, Lord!?!?!

Movie's out tomorrow, so don't have a heart attack. :p

And...

WHERE'S THAT LUKE'S FATHER REVIEW!??!?!?!?1!?

It's waiting for me to find time to watch the back half of the film ... full time job + running site + programming two festivals + single parenthood = Todd having very little time. If I don't start writing synopses for Fantasia sometime soon I think Pierre's going to come to Toronto and slap me ...

» Posted by Todd at March 29, 2006 11:12 PM

I don't think it's Pierre you've got to worry about. I've booked tickets for tomorrow!

;)

Well, you've seen some of it then. But in our experience, people who can't finish the movie in one go (it isn't long) aren't likely to be positive with their comments. So maybe it's best that you've held off...

Still, we want reviews, good AND bad.

Damn, Todd. I never realized you were that busy. I just assumed anyone who runs a site of this quality does it full time. My hat is firmly off to you.

He's just avoiding the issue...

I see so many news and reviews stories from Todd...

He just hates me.

Now I've even more pumped to see this movie. If you're saying it's better than Tremors, which is one of my all time favorite films, then I'm certainly going to the first showing tomorrow.

Didn't say better than Tremors, said best since. It's definitely in the same class, but it's been a while since I watched Tremors and I'd need to take a better look before ranking 'em ...
