Jake West's Evil Aliens was one of the major finds of the 2005 Toronto Film Festival, a gloriously bloody splat stick sci-fi horror comedy that fully achieves instant classic status in my book for the combine sequence alone. And while I've talked about it a fair bit - my review is here and it made my year end best-of - it's been absolutely killing me that I haven't been able to actually show anybody any of it. Until now.
I woke up this morning to an email from director Jake West steering me to the official theatrical trailer on his official website. Now, this is meant to play in commercial theaters so the gallons of blood per minute are not nearly as high in the trailer as in the actual film but it certainly does a good job of capturing the goofy energy of the film. All of you gore-hounds keep an eye out for some web-only exclusives that we've been promised in the next week or so.
Evil Aliens hits UK theaters in March and will hit North American shores later this year.

emily booth. fantastic.
I didn't love Evil Aliens as much as I wanted to (trying too hard comes to mind...to similar to others in the Splatstick category...something that Undead suffered from as well)...but it definately worth a watch when it becomes available...
This is just a warning not to let expectations get out of whack...
And hey, I love a good Phantasm reference or two...
FYI, my review is also in the archives here.
Serious? Man, I was singing the combine song for WEEKS after watching it. MAck can vouch for that ... I think he hit me a few times to make me shut up ...
Undoubtedly the showcase scene in the film...and wholly appropriate use for the song...!
But as I was watching the film I was more playing spot the reference than being swept away by the craziness...(not necessarily a good sign...I certainly wasn't doing that when I was watching Dead Alive or Evil Dead II...)
I was anticipating this film for weeks leading up to the TIFF screening, so some of it was a case of Evil Aliens not meeting my, admittedly high, expectations.
Worth a look, but not a classic.
Aww - I loved Evil Aliens. Mind you, my expectations were zero.
It was a great atmosphere seeing it at the midnight showing at the Fright Fest and I would like to see how it holds up on DVD..
Looks like I have a bit of a wait though!
Wow, that looks like amazing fun! Kind of like a more polished Bad Taste. The Peter Jackson influence is obvious.
When's this going to hit DVD???
Came out R4 in aus and NZ last week on dvd.
Evil Aliens was my runner-up for TOP film of the year (and I saw TONS last year)... AWESOME and very creative splatter sci-fi/horror comedy!
Incidentally EVIL ALIENS fans and those who missed it: the film is getting a rare second theatrical screening in Toronto on Thurs, February 16, at 9.30PM at the repertory Bloor Cinema, thanks to those wonderful freaks at Rue Morgue magazine. If you're in or near Toronto, be sure to check out the Bloor's other fab listings for this month (including a big screening of a Hitchcock double bill, and Rebel without a Cause) here:
