Transformers Movie Test Footage from Industrial Light and Magic?

(Posted In Rumors Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert USA and Canada )

transformer.jpgWith a Transformers movie by Dreamworks currently in production, there is a strong sense of antipation to see how they will take this franchise and adapted it to live action. Thanks to Tfw2005.com, it has come to my attention that there is a video online supposedly from this movie which may give us a little taste on what to expect. As indicated within the video, this is allegedly a piece of test footage by Industry Light and Magic . Whether if this is legit or not, I leave that up to you to decide.

UPDATE: Don Murphy, the producer of the Transformers movie has posted at his messageboard that no test footage has been leaked, therefore this video is a fake.

Gasp. Looks.....fantastic. Here's hoping Michael Bay makes it at least enjoyable. I know that it'll definitely look cool...

Something about the transforming looks a little off. There's too much shaking and vibrating going on -- the component pieces of the transformer seem too light. It needs to move as if it has more weight to it. The sequence of movements looks good though, things just need to be tweaked a bit.

Uh, maybe you forget that it is a screen test.. they don't spend the money for post effects until POST filming.. lol..

I must admit that the first generation of Transformers was a vital part of my childhood while growing up during the 80's. I use to watch the animation religously every Saturday morning. Back then, I would beg my mom to buy me the latest action figures every time we were at a shopping center. Once she gave in to my plea, I would take my Transformers and show it off to my friends at school and we would compare who own the best Transformer toys. It was the coolest thing to be into for young kids growing up at that time. Now a days, I don't follow the current Transformers but I still look back at the old Transformers with fond memories.

For a test video, it doesn't look that bad. I can rest assure that the visual effects will be top notch knowing that ILM is working on this project. I'm sure it would have alot of sweet visual effects. Beside, they hadn't let me down so far. At this point, the movie is at early stage of production with release date target at 2007 so it may be a long time till we get to see actual video in the movie. By then, I'm sure the cg will look wayyyy better.

They should hire the guy that did that transforming Beetle fan thing a while back, that thing was sweet. But yeah, this looks pretty damn nice. Very impressive for a test.

Transformers was my favorite cartoon as a kid too. And I still love it. I can't wait to see some sweet CGI transformers action on the big screen.

However...

I'm afraid this movie won't be any good anyway. Why?
1) Michael Bay.
2) It's going to be a movie about humans. This test footage confirms it. It's a film about 'a boy and his car' as Spielberg put it. The Transformers will probably just be props, not characters.

Just imagine, a Transformers film by, let's say, Zhang Yimou. Beautiful action combined with actual robot-drama scenes. Maybe a few supporting human-roles. Then a year later a sequel in which Optimus Prime dies. Make a whole new generation can cry about that event. A good director could pull it off.

Or maybe I'm just putting too much value in my childhood memories.

Pity that it's a fake--it actually looks really good. Here's hoping that just means the real thing will look better.

Come on guys, you only have to look at the Citroen adverts (I don't know if they're showing in countries other than the UK - Apologies if they're not) to see what a Transformer should look like in the real world.

The two adverts that I've seen so far are much better than the video footage shown here.

I Knew it! That footage was fake. The whole reason the scene looked so shakey is the fact that the Transformer (who looks like it may be Smoke Screen) is nothing more than, what appears to me to be anyway, a Transformers Alternator toy next to some footage of a person. The Design looks nothing like the designs for the transformers being used in the movies! I had doubts the instant I first saw that so called 'Footage' the first time a few weeks back.
