Silent Hill Teaser Online!

(Posted In Film News Horror Trailer Alert USA and Canada )

silenthillstill.jpgSomething labelled as the first trailer for the Christophe Gans / Roger Avery adaptation of Silent Hill turned up online today and, boy howdy, it looks as though that elusive first ever quality video game film may finally be upon us. Though I've always been of the opinion that Gans' Broherhood of the Wolf is a deeply flawed film there's no denying that it's also stunning to look at and Gans' visual skills are in full effect here. And let's just say that Roger Avery is a cut above the Uwe Boll's of the world when it comes to writing a script.

This turned up earlier today on AICN labelled as a trailer but it turns out that it's a Flash introduction to the freshly redesigned and relaunched Silent Hill Website. Trailer or not, it's the first chance to see any of Gans' images in motion and this version has the added benefits of being in a far superior video format that doesn't require you to stare at your screen wondering how long it's going to take to buffer and how choppy the stream is going to be. The original server got slammed and maxed out their bandwidth but luckily, thanks to a speedy reader, we nabbed ourselves a copy and I'm mirroring it here, at least until my house gets all foggy and the undead come to kill me.

Check that ... Sony's put up a big 'ol Quicktime version. Here it is:

This isn't any kind of 'trailer'. It's the flash intro for the site that someone grabbed and started spreading around ... www.welcometosilenthill.com It's just a quick intro, so if you ain't feelin it... well it's not supposed to, unless of course you are a fan of the games... then it's kick ass awesome! I'm getting excited!

really, huh, you didn't like brotherhood of the wolf? what did you find flawed about it? anyway, will try to watch the trailer now

» Posted by joeybrash at December 9, 2005 12:36 AM

There was a whole lot wrong with Brotherhood, mostly the writing and it took forever to end.
I do however love Crying Freeman, flawed also but kick ass.

» Posted by Swarez at December 9, 2005 08:58 AM

Mostly what Swarez said. I found the structure and plotting pretty chunky and after building so long to get to the creature I found the creature effects pretty weak. That said it's absolutely gorgeous to look at and I believe it was my introduction to the goodness that is Vincent Cassel ... I'm mixed on it. Didn't like it enough to buy it or anything but it certainly sold me on Gans as a director to watch. I've been meaning to take a look at Crying Freeman forever ...

Damn that's heightened my interest level even more..awesome.

Sooooo excited about this one!!!

» Posted by Lilith Succube at December 9, 2005 10:30 PM

Tri-Star??? I thought they went out of business.

» Posted by fdgdf at December 10, 2005 01:57 AM

If Tri-Star is still around, they should release The Monster Squad and Night Of The Creeps on DVD!

» Posted by gdfg at December 10, 2005 02:06 AM

Well, it appears this movie gets the usual hollywood honor of having the story twisted around so horridly that it becomes a sad rip-off of its own source material. I am glad they used Akira Yamaoka's actual game score in this 'preview, though a look at the credits shows another composers name - Strike two. While Silent Hill remains one of my favorite games of all time, I fear this movie will be a sad, sad attempt to emulate the feel of the game while robbing the audience - mainly the fans - of any real substance.

By the looks of this teaser, gans has got it spot on.i hope he uses that grainy look throughout the film, that would be really cool and authentic.I u guys should give this movie a chance,i really want it to be great.

» Posted by matt at December 11, 2005 06:47 AM

I think for what we see so far that this movie may have potential, but then again i've had that opinion on other movies and I have been wrong.

Fingers crossed!

Man, sean bean should have been the lead character. He looks alot like the main character from SH2. Plus I saw the screens from dark horizons, who the hell are all the homeless looking people?

Skeptical, but I'd still like to see it. Hope they take advantage of that filter effect in the actual movie.

» Posted by mckiller at December 12, 2005 06:12 PM

To comment on mckiller, I think that Sean Bean isn't the main character because the movie is supposed to be mainly based on silent hill one, with elements of two and three...
Hence the whole Alessa/Dahlia in the movie.

But from the pictures I've seen, the actress playing Dahlia looks alot like her. :)

I can't wait for this to come out.

» Posted by Susie at December 13, 2005 09:44 PM

Please, please, please let it be better than Resident Evil. At least that way I'll feel the game-horror genre (even if more psychological in SH) has a worthy representative.

» Posted by FcPoliFan at December 14, 2005 01:53 PM

MAN.... i expect to see more of the SH 4 , but i realy like the visual of that stillshots posted on the official site.
WHERE ARE THE LIVING DEADS , THE MONSTER DOGS AND THE BLEEDING NURSE!!??
I´M WAITING TO WATCH THIS MOVIE SINCE I PLAYED THE FIRST VIDEO GAME OF THE SILENT HILL SERIES.

SILENT HILL IS THE PLACE!!!

» Posted by Rod Branco at December 14, 2005 10:07 PM

Key points: you can see what appears to be the feet from a few nurses, and PYRAMID HEAD

» Posted by roadrageoj at December 14, 2005 11:36 PM

Everything seems to be shaping up quite nicely! You can tell that Gans is a fan of Silent Hill as he admits. Without Akira's music/sound, this movie would have failed, but he's also attached to this project. I think the credits on the end were pasted in from the "create a poster" jpeg image. All of the names on that jpeg file are gibberish names. Probably to later add in the names. You can check out the credits on imdb.com
And adding a female lead character is probably not a bad idea. It would at least get the girlfriends interested in watching a videogame movie! It's going to really make them not want to go home alone! But then again, it's Silent Hill, if made correctly, no one will want to go home alone!

» Posted by willis at December 15, 2005 01:00 AM

Hey ...i saw the teaser trailer and make me fell the same sensation of playing the game ..it´s amazing!!!
some actors reeeally look´s like the game characters....and i saw the nurses feet too.
preaty cool!!!i´m very exited about this.

» Posted by Rod Branco at December 15, 2005 09:16 AM

this trailer looked hella kool it looks exactly like the game i think this would b the first game-movie that won't suck

» Posted by Platinum Edison at December 15, 2005 12:26 PM

Pyramid Head, Nurses, Pacient Demons, it's all there in the teaser trailer. This intro teaser is better than the original intro from the official website, because we can see better the quick images.
By the way, that face at the end of the intro, remembers me Walter Sullivan, the evil character from SH4. Is it possíble to be him?

» Posted by Technotas at December 15, 2005 01:12 PM

doood if Walter Sullivan showed up in the movie that would be niice. you know he was first mentioned in Silent Hill 2? pretty crazy. but anywho the first Mortal Kombat is the only good videogame movie in the history of videogame movies, and whats sad is that there had been crap loads since then. movies like the INFAMOUS Street Fighter, and Craptastic House of the Dead, and lets not forget Alone in the Dark. big ups to Gans for stayin true to the oh-so sensitive feel of Silent Hill, for what we have seen this far.

» Posted by jon at December 15, 2005 06:26 PM

Please, God above.. if there is one thing in this world that you must oversee, it's that this film is done correctly and doesn't suck ass. PLEASE.. for the love of all that is holy.

And for the record, Mortal Kombat was NOT a good movie. I don't understand how anyone even regards it as "good for a video game movie". Remove the needle from your vein.

Tri-Star is Columbia, Screen Gems, MGM and United Artist.

» Posted by sdfg at December 21, 2005 08:38 AM

Big ol' Quicktime version up now ... looks good ...

» Posted by Todd Brown at December 21, 2005 10:04 PM

» Posted by joe at December 27, 2005 09:04 PM

A shit of page, i cant watch the trailer, you are and ugly and selfish person, bye everyone.

» Posted by the motherfucking at January 2, 2006 02:07 AM

i hope it is fucking good because if not i will be very mad and i wish the main character was sean bean because then it would be like the frist one not his wife they fucked up i think there alote not to be sexiest or nothing i just think they should have went with the origanal game and i hope the elements are the same to well later people

» Posted by Aaron at January 9, 2006 01:15 PM

Comments are a bit old in here. In case no one knows yet, they used a female lead because the character in the game didn't act like a male mentally (fainting, talking to himself etc.) so they cast a woman instead to keep the emotional feel correct.

» Posted by Gabriel at March 19, 2006 10:24 PM

does anyone know the name of the end credits song for the movie and the song they play throught the whole movie? please help its buggin the shit outta me.
