yamato_newer.gifA downloadable high-definition trailer for Jun'ya Satô's Yamato (Otoko-tachi no Yamato) has been added to the website of Apple Computer Inc.. (Note that the trailer can only be viewed with QuickTime 7.)

The screenplay for Yamato was written by (Jun'ya) Satô, based on Jun Henmi's non-fiction books Ketteiban otoko-tachi no Yamato (ue) and Ketteiban otoko-tachi no Yamato (shita). The movie was scored by Joe Hisaishi (Hisaishi Jô); the theme song for it, "Close Your Eyes", is by Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi.

The principal cast of Yamato, as listed on this page of the official website for the movie, is as follows (left to right, rows 1-4; 30 actors): Kazushige Nagashima, Kyôka Suzuki, Takashi Sorimachi, Shidô Nakamura, Tatsuya Nakadai, Tetsuya Watari, Hiroyuki Hirayama, Norihito Kaneko, Shinobu Terajima, Hiromi Sakimoto, Dai Watanabe, Ken'ichi Matsuyama, Kenta Uchino, Ryô Hashizume (Hashidume Ryô), Eiji Okuda, Ryûzô Hayashi, Hirotarô Honda, Hisashi Igawa, Atsuko Takahata, Kayoko Shiraishi, Ryû Morimiya, Yû Aoi, Noboru Takachi, Jundai Yamada, Jun'ichi Haruta, Kaitarô Nozaki (a.k.a. Umitarô Nozaki), Sôsuke Ikematsu, Kimiko Yo, Hiroshi Katsuno, and Kenji Takaoka.

Tôei K.K. is scheduled to release Yamato theatrically in Japan on December 17th.

They're actually opening this thing? I thought it was just going to be a series of trailers and making-ofs.

To be fair, with block-booking here, the opening date might've been set in stone before Kong's foot came down. It looks very Toei, very in line with the atmosphere in Japan right now -- it might've been a bit much to call it 大和魂/Yamato damashii though.

Just noticed the lovely and talented Terajima Shinobu is in it...

Word is it kicked Kong's ass at the box office. My friend in Hiroshima said the trailer alone moved her to tears. Should be a good film.
