Pulse (aka Kairo). Originally by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. American Remake Trailer Online.

(Posted In Asia Cult Drama Horror Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert )

PULSEremake.jpegDon't particularly want to spend time giving all the reasons why this is (or could be) a negative experience, don't mind saying again that the original is a very positive experience - a stunning, subtle, original, passionate piece of story and film qualities combined into perhaps one of the most powerful movies of recent years. Here we go then, the trailer (teaser or otherwise, it lasts for quite some time) which shows you how some of the key elements of the original have been transformed for Hollywood audiences.

Wait a minute...that last shot of the plane crashing is the exact same one filmed for the original Pulse. You can tell because it has the Japanese actress in it. Wha???

As a fan of "Veronica Mars", I'm quite curious about Kristen Bell's performance...

What's wrong with re-imagining something as a mere entertainment with a few thoughtful touches?

Odd trailer ... parts are very faithful to the original but they've obviously added a LOT more jump scares into it ...

yep, certainly does have that 'laying it on thick' element to it - i dont remember the tape being so literally or specifically explained as this trailer implies this version of the story will...

You didn't expect ambiguity from a Dimension Films remake now, did you?

I know it's only a trailer, but it lacks any sort of subtlety. One of the mains strengths of the original was it's odd (not for Kurosawa, but for the rest of the world...) narrative strutcture and ambiguity...It's the kindergarten version.

And I'm sure it will make more on the first screening than the original did for it's theatrical run...
