Andy Lau and Ahn Sung-Gi have been cast in a US$ 15 Million co-production between Korea, Japan, China and Hong Kong, called '묵공' ('Battle of Wisdom'). The film, an adaptation of the Japanese manga '墨攻' ('Mozi's Assault') by Mori Hideki, will be directed by Jacob Cheung. Set in the Warring States period, the story tells of Ge Li (Lau), a one man envoy sent by the Mo family (of the famous Mo Tzu/Mozi) to help the Kingdom of Liang fight off the invaders from the Kingdom of Zhao.
Mo Tzu was one of China's most important figures in developing philosophy and political theory. His own Mohism will be an integral part of the film. For a brief essay on Mo Tzu and Mohism, check this site.
The historical drama, also starring Hu Jun and Li Bing Bing, will start shooting on September 24 in Inner Mongolia. Investing in the film on the Korean side wil be Boram Entertainment, which recently funded Tsui Hark's '七劍' ('Seven Swords'). One more Korean actor will be cast in the film, but it hasn't been announced yet who that will be.
