New Final Fantasy Advent Children Trailer!

Thanks to Opus, who posted this in a comment thread elsewhere ...

A new trailer for Final Fantasy Advent Children has turned up online and they evidently haven't run out of pretty pictures to show us just yet. The spoken intro is a bit over the top, worrisome considering how badly other Square Enix productions have fared on the story level, but golly these things just look might pretty moving around ...

Trailer (downloadable Quicktime).

Bad on the story level? Hmm.. I still consider the game this is based on to be one of the finest examples of good storytelling (within games), and generally Square has paid a lot more attention to the storylines than most game companies, although some of their newer works rehash the material a bit.

If you meant the previous FF movie (and the pretty horrid FF anime series), then you're absolutely true that they were bad on the story level.

I saw this trailer a bit earlier, I believe it's from the Steamboy DVD. From the looks of it, the DVD announcement can't be too far off - I hope we get some specs soon.

Yeah, I'm talking about the previous film ...

I just interviewed the technie staff for the UK publication 3d Computer World (should be out in September), and Square Enix censored all questions to do with Spirits Within. They don't consider this a FF movie at all, and there is no connection between Spirits Within and Advent Children, to the point where they don't even mention TSW in their publicity.
Remember, Advent Children is also a DVD only release. I think it looks fantastic though....

Its too bad that this is only a DVD release. The animation looks like it would be incredible on the big screen. I do like the hyperfighting scenes that were in the trailer. While I think that the script for Spirit Within was not terrible, this one just looks like an extended "in between stages of the video game" clip. I generally like them, but could I take about 2 hours of one? Maybe if it was warcraft.

I noticed that EzyDVD, which has had the R4 dvd up for preorder for a while, has added some more details and probably the final cover art for this.
Unfortunately there's still no mention of extras (there has to be some..) and it seems that the release date is indeed going to be a month after the Japanese release as all places seem to point to middle/end of October now instead of September.

The visuals in this movie were kick ass, absolutely brilliant. And the action sequences were even better. I am so for that six-piece sword Cloud has; I want one! As for the story, I think it was a little weak. I've never played FFVII, and I think the movie makers did this movie with a presuption that the viewer had played the game. And even then, the coherancy of the story left a lot to be desired. Kadaj going ballistic over trying to find his Mother? It sounded more like he was a man already dilusional before taking drugs. It really didn't work for me. But I give it top marks for music, action, and visials. But the story failed for me.
