Von Trier's At It Again ...

(Posted In)

lars.jpgHere's what I love about Lars Von Trier: whether his films succeed or not the man is never satisfied. He's always looking for something new, always looking to push both the boundaries of his medium and his fellow artists. What's he up to now? Well, Von Trier has recruited three film makers - Andrea Arnold, Morag McKinnon and Mikkel Norgaard - to take part in The Advance Party. Each film maker will make their own film using the same cast, playing the same characters and using the same sets with the three films shooting conurrently in Glasgow over a six week span.

I love this idea. Absolutely love it. It's ahuge challenge both to directors and actors and should give us some pretty fascinating takes and differing perspectives on the cast of characters. And though you may not have heard of these three film makers it's not like they're rookies ... McKinnon's been nominated for a BAFTA and Arnold's most recent short - Wasp - has won a stack of awards and is currently nominated for an Oscar.

Now if only someone would spill the beans on Von Trier's Antichrist project ...

I worked in Zentropa until recently, and last I heard the Antichrist movie was declared dead. Sorry. (But with LvT you can never be sure.)

Really? That sucks. I love the Riget stuff - the King adaptation was just sooooo baaaaaad - and was really looking forward to seeing him go that direction again ...

The Antichrist movie sounded great, lets hope Thomas was only the coffee and tea man and they told him this before sacking him for using the photocopier for personal use.

There is a great little Riget set that was released in Denmark with English subtitles. I picked it up last year.
Too bad he felt that he couldn't continue with the story when the two main actors died.
